Biography
Melissa Hill (1986 Norfolk, VA) is an award-winning artist who received both her BFA in 3D Media (2011) and her BA in Art History (2012) at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. She completed her MFA in Sculpture (2015) at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. She currently practices in Virginia Beach, Virginia and works at Old Dominion University.
Hill's artwork has garnered recognition both nationally and internationally, with her pieces showcased in a variety of solo and group exhibitions. Notable among these are "Message in a Bottle: Picturing Maritime Culture in Hampton Roads" at the Barry Art Museum (2024), "Sauce" at the Baron and Ellin Gordon Art Galleries (2021), and the "Benefits Art Auction" at The Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts (2021 & 2019). Additionally, her work has been featured in prestigious events such as the "Art’s in Foggy Bottom Sculpture Biennale" (2018) and the "Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art’s New Waves Exhibit" (2017).
Melissa was awarded an exhibitions fellowship at the Flashpoint Gallery with CulturalDC in 2014 and in 2020, a leading tech company commissioned two large scale installations from her.
